This fall’s Emily’s Hope fundraiser has begun!  The student government of Emily’s elementary school, Colin Powell Elementary School, voted on the issue facing Virginians that they would most like to support, and they selected fighting childhood hunger.

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the United States goes hungry every day?  That means 15,000,000 American children, including 21,000 children right here in Fairfax County, do not have enough to eat, which impacts all areas of their lives.

Through a partnership with the James Mott Community Assistance Center in Fairfax County, every $10 raised will help provide enough food for a family for a week.  Decide how many families you can help us feed for a week, and then click to donate now.

Emily’s Hope Board Members present a check for $10,000 to students and staff at Henderson Middle School in Richmond, VA to help their underfunded library acquire updated books and materials.  Much of the money was raised at Colin Powell through SCA fundraisers for Emily’s Hope, a charity that works to enrich the lives of children everywhere, that was started at the school in memory of an FCPS student who passed away while in 4th grade.  Henderson Middle School presented Emily’s Hope with a portrait of Emily as part of their appreciation.

Emily’s Hope is a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization that is dedicated to the memory of Emily Michael, and to fulfilling her promise and potential. We are committed to making the lives of children better in small and large ways. Our objective is brightening and improving children’s lives. This will be achieved by acts of kindness to meet and address simple needs like improving a learning environment or providing developmental tools for groups or classes, as well as more individualized needs ranging from medical needs to overall well-being of a child in need. We will raise funds in a variety of ways, and are open to any new ideas you may have to help support our cause.
